Serving dinner at the retirement home tonight, one of the residents had guests eating with him. He called me over and said, “Sruli, would you mind showing my friends some of that computer animation you’re working on?” I gave them a quick pitch, and they loved it! BH! One of them asked for my autograph. She was joking. But still…
1 week ago • 0 notesNow that the President has brought same-sex marriages to the forefront, my Democrat friends have wanted to know my opinion as a politically Conservative, Torah-observant Jew.
It’s true that the Torah prohibits homosexuality, as it prohibits violating the Sabbath, and eating shellfish. I personally choose not to do those things, but don’t believe people should be discriminated against, or have their basic rights taken away if they make a different choice.
The real measure of a person is how they treat people, & how well they give the benefit of the doubt when they’re mistreated. The rest is commentary.
That said, why can’t a State vote to define the legal parameters of what constitutes a marriage? Similarly, why can’t a State determine its own medical, drug and alcohol policies?
Working at the retirement home half my week. Producing a holiday special the other half. The one thing they have in common: lots of people forget conversations you had recently.
3 weeks ago • 0 notesHad a wonderful Shabbes, with lots of great people and lots of meaningful discussions. We even got into “The Shawshank Redemption” at the 3rd Meal. There’s a line: “An ice age here, million years of mountain building there. Geology is the study of pressure and time. That’s all it takes really, pressure, and time.” There are so many truths to that movie, but this is the one that always sticks with me. The most worthwhile things take the most dedication and the most time. Sometimes it feels like you will never get there, but you’re able to persevere by because you’ve got a cause worth giving yourself to. This is what the Sefirah of “Hod” is all about. It’s about being able to transcend the limitations of self by giving yourself over to something greater than you. Tonight we counted 29 days of the Omer. Chesed of Hod. Shavua tov, gut voch, and a good week to everyone!
3 weeks ago • 0 notesJust had a whole discussion about “The Three Amigoes.” What a brilliant, PG-rated masterpiece. Bummer that the live-action world seems to have lost the love for that kind of narrative - which leaves much innuendo up to the imagination. If the Abishter permits, I’d like a shot at making those kinds of films again…

Today we counted 20 days of the Omer. Yesod of Tifferes. In laymen’s terms: when expressing truth, beauty, or compassion to someone else, you first have to establish a connection with the recipient - so they will be open to receiving.
